Sorry guys, had to do it.
After the suggestion from Coza, I figured it was best to still have a place that we could vent our concerns and also promote our own beliefs. If I had the ability, I would sensor the comments from Nissan owners as 99% of it all is absolute cow manure.
However, if I did that, it wouldn't be fair, and, being the 'pink tutu wearing brigade' that they are, I may be forced to pay for tissues for the rest of their misereable lives due to the stress they may encounter.
All things said, this is purely a fun thread and I hope that we all share the same belief that all comments made here are not in any way meant to harm or belittle anyone or anything.
Besides, without Nissan owners the spare parts places would go broke and we also wouldn't have anyone to poke fun of.

I suppose it comes down to whether you would classify XXXX as a beer.
IMHO, XXXX is good for making dampers and killing snails, can't think of anything else it might be good for.
My beer of choice?, anything that the brewer can spell.

Here's a spanner for the works...
I don't drink beer!! Never have. I only had a beer can in the Cooktown photo because that is the only thing untouched in the house.
There are benefits to not drinking beer of course, firstly no one can accuse you of knocking off all the beer.
Also my drink of choice "RUM" has one less letter in it then the word "BEER" or "XXXX", which makes things easier when one is a little intoxicated. This rule goes out the window with "VB" however.
And lastly ... real men don't have a few beers then start on the rum ... real men have a few rums ... then get on the OP...!
Okay, let the flaming begin... :)

I noticed in another thread you said you had tried to get a decent brew from something called 'Queenslander Gold', apparently supposed to taste like XXXX.........
Enough said.
Real men drink alcohol, regardless of what it is called, that includes beer, rum, whiskey, wine, shots, anything in any order.
Just wish I could remember what I had last night.
One thing I know for sure, it WASN'T XXXX, that's not alcohol, that's snail bait.
I have to admit, I have tried XXXX once, actually went out specifically to buy the stuff.
There is a pub in Brissy called Breakfast Creek Hotel, mighty fine pub, that serves XXXX "off the wood", apparently the only place in the world that serves XXXX from wooden barrels. After tasting it I understand why, IMHO it is one place to many.

That light you saw it must have been a doctor examining your head.
Sometimes the truth hurts.Did you buy a real toyota 4wd or a toy one.You know -indapendant suspension.
Kinda' lucky we don't have major sponsorship/advertising from either Toyota or Nissan here hey!
Comments from the Nissan brigade are kinda like the sort of comments you hear in a high-school locker room. You know the ones from the guys who always talk about sex are the ones that aren't actually getting any. Funny that we don't get too many Toyota drivers/owners here dissing the Nissans. It is usually the other way around.

Thats because they wouldnt give you a trade in on the MAxima. It would cost them to get rid of it. I still think the $50 they offered was fair. The cape york sticker would have been worth more than the cruiser.

Thanks for the comment Campdog, but not quite as it seems. We are 5.6t all up and I did follow the Cruiser for just that reason. There was only one part 600 deep and you can see the cruiser did drop the level by 150mm or so. We're also up reasonably high in the diesel Transit and the van is an off road and higher still so most flowed under us and we are hanging on to the tar with 8 wheels and 10 tyres! There was no side creepage at all (not even a hint) but I agree that is not the point and I always value comments from others more experienced about situations like this.
Criticism accepted (and perhaps deserved). In fact I'd appreciate any others comments for when a similar situation presents itself in future.

Campdog-nice work on the 'answers to alcohol'. I think I can take a few of those on board as slogans to live my life by!!!!
By the way, Toyota has officially come on board again for the next edition (2008) so any mention of the 'other' brands will now have to be sensored.
Only joking. One thing for sure though, I was getting pretty worried because if Toyota didn't come through then I would have to approach the other guys and I didn't really want to spoil the credibility of the publication by stooping so low. Thanks Toyota- you have saved me in so many ways. Lets fly the flag guys- fly it proud!!!!!!!!!
Days like this, I love owning a Toyota and being a responsible driver!

With the way fuel prices are going, the only economical way to go in the future will be to load each car up to the hilt with people, to share the cost.
Maybe you could stow away on the roof rack
We plan to camp somewhere between South Vrilya and the Cotterill. Just need to find somewhere that is close enough to fresh water, rocks and access to the river.

three of us did 3 weeks for about $700 each all up except grog last year.
I wonder how much water would be in the creeks south of Virilya near beach access.
Not so much finding a seat as to convincing the mrs it is a good idea. Id load up the old patrol and go myself but would be a one way trip.I wouldnt be allowed home. I havent stopped working in the yard and painting tring for a leave pass but to no avail.
Suppose I can just look on and dream and look at old photos.

Tear up a bit when she's around Campdog. Stamp your feet up & down on the ground, and chuck a tantrum.
Surely she can't be that cruel to a grown man
We did the drive down to the Cotterill mouth 2 years ago. From memory, there was only the one creek that posed any drama's. It wasn't throwing too much water out, more so the high cut embankments. Low tide was easy to get around it. The rest was reasonably easy.
I'd expect that it could be a bit hairy on the high high tides.

Scorcher, done all that and hasnt worked at all.Spent months bringing rocks home from the quarry to build gardens and worked my butt off. But no way she will give in. Maybe just run away from home.
As to Cotteral we wer at Virilya last april and still too much water around to get there, done it by boat but time window was too small with a big boat and low tides. There is a creek in the Cotteral which links up with the doughboy and supposed to be good fishing.

Yeah,
We're hoping to do a trip every day or 2 between those 2 rivers.
So much to choose from - chasing Barra, spinning for Tuna, mud crabbin', looking for Spanish Mackeral, bottom bashing for Coral Trout & Red Emporer. It's endless up in that area.
At least if one area shut's down, another is usually firing.
Then again, I'd be just as contented chasing Cherabin in the freshwater creek.
Maybe tell her that there's a "Quarry Convention" up at Weipa that you have to attend ??
campdog
23-04-2008, 09:43 AM
A permanent convention would be great. Have been applying for all sorts of mine jobs at Weipa but no luck yet. Everyone in Weipa we spoke to said theat my wife wouldnt have any trouble getting work in day care.
I thought we would be busy for 2 years at work with the Pacific Highway upgrade at our front gate, and would be able to save a bit for an extended Cape trip.400,00 plus tonne of material for job and we missed the lot. Now watch the opposition drive past our gate every day.Pretty depressing situation. Makes a fly in fly out job very attractive.
We found last year that the rivers were dead and outside fishing was great.Couldnt get a mud crab any where. The year before crabs were everywhere.Spoke to some locals who confirmed it wa some sort of seasonal cyle. Never the less I couldnt care if I caught anything, as long as Im on the Cape.

I guess you would have had to fill the water bottles cause you never know when a Nissian will break down.

WARNING FOR ALL NISSAN OWNERS THIS WET SEASON
"Any Nissan drivers thinking of following Toyota drivers off road this wet season, you are advised that we will not stop to pull you out of bog holes or creek crossings and it is at your own risk and expense. Note- It would be wise for Nissan drivers to make sure that their vehicle insurance is up to date and that they have the highest level membership with RACQ should they attempt to follow us. A good satellite phone is recommended too."

Ah, but let's get to facts.......Toyota 100 series has independant front suspension whilst the GU4 Patrol doesn't and remain live axel (Superior in the bush). Another fact is with the IFS cruiser has an extremely weak front diff which is prone to failure.....Now, take a second to look at the serious comp scene and you will see many GQ's, GU's though very little 60's, 80's or 100's. The reason for this is, Cheaper, stronger and can handle the treatment.....So when in the bush the Patrol is the only one, all else is second..........hehehehe
PS: Nissan 3ltr Hand Grenade not included.......Though I am hearing many bad reports about the Cruiser V8 that are a little concerning.........
Got to admit. I have seen Teabags vehicle and it is well set up. I am sure it will handle anything the Cape can throw at it. Not too sure about the small sticker on the rear windscreen though!!

No, it was in reply to your comment above..............Having a family member who was an Insurance officer for a large insurance company and he dealt with more Cruiser claims than any other......Now this is a stat that can be what you want like any other stat as it doesn't take into account how many of that particular vehicle are doing that particular trek.....So, with this in mind your off the cuff quote of see more Patrols means absolutly didly squat.........Each to his own, if you wish to pay more and get less, fill your boots......$1500 extra for A/C, No Air Bags in trayback or Troopy, face it, your getting ripped off........I can now sit back and laugh at all the gulable Tojo boy's.....Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, RATFIFOL.........hehehehehehehehehe:)

All jokes aside though, all the vehicles that i have seen sent down for insurance claims, they have been Toyota's and Nissans. And it was only because they decided to drown it in a creek or going too fast on the road and pranging it.
As far as i know, it has not been because of faulty equipment. Most of the ones that are having the problems as well are the ones with electric windows, abs and all that.

Hmmmmm,
after reading far to much banter on this subject over the past months, i figured i might throw my 1 cents worth in.
Personally i drive a cruiser at present. An 85 model, powered by, what i consider the perfect cape york block, the 2H.
for me, its the perfect setup,
now i should say that i have an uncanny ability to break what is said to be unbreakable.
having said that, i have broken both toyotas and nissans over the yrs.
what i havnt done is drown a vehicle of any description, and during the wet, i must cross 7 creeks to get to town.
it's got nothing to do with the vehicle, it might just be how the owner drives it.
a revalation!!!
cheers.

Going back when we first had a nissan mate, parts for them were more expensive. Things might have changed since then, i dont know. Just asked anyone who has lived up the Cape for most of their lives. You are probably right, now days most people seem to go for non genuine instead of genuine parts. Nissan parts prices are frightening if you go genuine.
Just the price of engine mounts are double compared to repco.
I must admit that Toyota has held its own in the remote parts of Australia as what choice did you have before,A landrover, intrnational stout or an old jeep.Toyota took over with a better vehicle and like most say If your on a good thing, stick to it. The unexperienced 4'by drivers will most likely lean towards the non-genuine. This can be a hard one especially when we are in remote areas and need things to do the distance. One example of this i found recently is engine mounts. I decided to go non-genuine and i wound up losing one halfway between Weipa and here on the Telegraph track. I go genuine now for most things as i believe that good quality is a necessity. However this may vary in the cities where there is a mechanic around the corner.
The OKA's look good however i would steer clear of the second hand ones as i have seen what happens to them after a drive up the cape. Andy from Spare and Repairs up here has showed me on a few different ones where there are stress fractures. He has even put a couple off the road. Brand new i think these guys are a couple of hundred thousand dollars.

I dont know about unexperienced going for non genuine parts. I think is the other way around. If you have replaced a few parts you soon come to know whats good and whats not.I agree with the engine mounts have to be genuine.
What I dont agree with is a service station in Cooktown trying to sell genuine Nissan OIl filters for $55 each when you can get ryco for 10 bucks anywhere else.(cairns is not all that far away).
Having a mechanic handy shouldnt be the deciding point in what spares to use.

I know if i was living in the city, a lot more of the parts i get for my Toyota would be non-genuine. The reasoning behind this is that being in the city, your car doesnt have the stresses of off road driving and can get away with a lot more. I agree with what your saying about filters and such but the important things like engine mounts, gaskets, anything like this, in my opinion, need to be genuine.
