Food For Thought

I have noticed a few posts have mentioned food outlets and places to go for that 'top' feed and figured we may need to have a thread dedicated to ideas and suggestions on where to stop for a good feed.

I guess the Archer burger has already featured so that is up and running.

Also, don't go past the great feed from the guys at Musgrave. These guys have kept me going many a time whilst heading up or down the road. This is a great place to stop for a big feed and to also catch up on the history of the area.

Also-for those of you who, like me, can't go past a good salami (with a nice red wine and some blue cheese) then do not go past the little servo/general store at Lakeland on your way north. I make it a point to stop there on my way north for a top-up on fuel, a good brekkie and cuppa before I hit the unsealed road to paradise. These guys also have some of the best locally made salami's in a fridge out to the side. Do yourself a favour and stop in there to buy/try some. Don't buy them all though as I am up there again soon and want to get some too.

Any others please feel free to add, or maybe you can post some once you have visited the cape and found some places for yourselves.

Are Mocka's Pies still operating at Port Douglas?

If you like a good meat pie then on your way to Cairns stop off at the Alligator Creek Roadhouse about 40ks sth Townsville, get ther early as they have the best made inhouse pies.
A the top go to the Bakery at Bamaga as they also make great pies and fresh bread.
Another favorite of mine is a mango smoothie at a little frui tstall on the right hand side just before Giru or between home hill and townsville.

Yep, the famous Mocka's Pies is still in existence... not like they used to be though.

Man, I wish I could go back in time and get a trailer load of the original pies ... or even the recipe!

Another great place is the Weipa Golf Club,have a great pizza night. Went there last year and was a treat.

You have tainted this forum topic by mentioning Maccas!! Shame, Shame, Shame.

There are enough Maccas outlets here in Cairns to last you to the tip and back.

You can always stock up and freeze them and then re-heat them as you need to.

Don't laugh, it has been done before. Not too sure how it goes re-heating plastic in the microwave though. That's all there is to a maccas feed. More nutrition in the packaging and advertising.

Hi Ant, do you ever go to charlies seafood restraunt in cairns.I went there last year and thought it was pretty good.
Are you a resident of cairns or the Cape.

You can always stock up and freeze them and then re-heat them as you need to.

Freeze them, don't you just keep them in the paper bag.
Stuff is supposed to last for years, what with all the preservatives.

Campdog- Yeah been to charlies a few times. It is the place to stay on the way to and from the cape.

As for residency, I now unfortunately live in Cairns but still call myself a resident of Cape York as I try to get up there as much as time allows. Hate the city.

Ant , I hope I dont get into trouble for wandering of the line of this thread,but I can think of worse places to live then Cairns. At least you can escape for a weekend to lakefield or lions den for the weekend,Ive got to do 2300 ks to get to cairns,
Food for thought- Lions Den have great meals and Lakeland Servo have the biggest Mixed grill ive ever seen.
