We are planning our first trip up to the cape in June-July this yr. We have a Patrol & camper trailer & 2 young kids & will be travelling with 2 other couples using tents. And we have lots of questions!!!
Firstly what kind of camping is available at Laura & Coen & do they have toilets/showers (we are self sufficient but the others couples aren't). Or would we better camping at Hann River Roadhouse & Archer River Roadhouse??
We will be spending a few days in Weipa & wondering if there is a track from ?Stones Creek to Bramwell Junction as our travel partner assures us there is and yet we can't find it on ANY maps????
Also does anyone know if we can take our camper trailer down the bloomfield track? We will be staying at Cooktown & the Daintree & were hoping to travel this way but we have heard that campers aren't meant to use this track????
Cheers

G'day Jen...welcome to the forum !

Just a quick couple of points....

Taking a CT along the Bloomfield shouldn't be any drama....just a couple of really steep bits which can be interesting after rain ! My old 80 series managed to struggle through it towing a loaded up CT.

Camping....My suggestion would be to take the Hann River & Archer River options....much better facilities, and at the Archer in particular, you can spend half the day there (or more) just lazing in the river & eating Archer Burgers !

The track from Weipa to Bramwell via Stones crossing is there. It runs through the Steve Irwin Conservation Reserve, and, up until recently, has been closed. However, I read somewhere last year that they were looking at allowing direct access through there...somebody else on here might be able to confirm the current status.

Have a great trip....June/July is a good time to travel up there !

Hi Jen, welcome aboard

I agree pretty much with what Scorcher has said regarding the CT, should be OK behind a Patrol on the Bloomfield, unless it's very wet.

As for camping, again I agree, mainly because I don't know what the facilities are like in Coen or Laura, having not stayed at either.
We choose to bush camp outside of Coen, and the ground behind the pub at Laura looks to be very rustic. Though having said that I intend to stay there on my next trip.

As far as I know the Stones Crossing to Bramwell track is still closed.

hi jen, you shouldnt have any dramas on the bloomfield with a camper trailer, been through numerous times, just slown down around the switchbacks.
will be up there in july, hope to run into you on the road..

G'day Jen,

We camped at Stone's Crossing last September and can confirm it was still closed then.

Cheers,
Roo.
