I have 2 ambitions. To fish Weipa and to fish Gove, both in my own tinnie. Is it a hard task towing the tinny (4.6 topender) to Weipa? Any advice appreciated. Planning for next year sometime, whenever the bite is hot:)

Matt,The size of the tinnie is not as much a concern as the quality of tralier you intend on towing. Make sure it is up to scratch and make sure you also cover EVERYTHING on the boat (including the motor) as the dust will get in everywhere.

As for the time of the year, April/May is good if you can get up there early enough, otherwise, leave it till October/November. These are great times to be there to fish from a boat.

There is a lot to plan for this type of trip so best to start now so you really do enjoy it all.

Thanks sport. The trailer is basically 6 mnth old, standard H/D quinnie. Planning on some extra framework and gusseting, and I'll ditch the standard suspension, probably for cruiser springs and hubs, to match the bolt pattern on the truck.

October/November looks the go. Started planing for this one 2 years ago when I bought the Patrol.

Another question, if that's OK? Wife and boy will be coming as well. What's the accomodation level up there? The better I can get, the happier the wife will be.

Matt, you have a few options.

Weipa Campgrounds have tents, cabins, and a 'fishing lodge'

Albatross Resort: standard rooms, restaurant, bar, pool

Heritage Resort: similar to the Albatross

Weipa Palms: nice rooms

For my pick- book the fishing lodge early and set up there. It is really nicely laid out and close to everything. If you have a copy of the latest Cape Yorker, there is an article in there that I covered on it.
